Across the fjord from the village of Vopnafjordur is Krossavíkur Mountain, about 1100 m. high, impressive and beautifully formed. There is a marked path up onto the mountain range, which is commonly called "Krossavíkurfjall". From the summit, the view is incredible and extends in all directions, so the walk is well worth the effort.

The walking path to the mountaintop begins at Grjótá, a stream between the farm of Krossavíkur and the observation point at Gljúfursá. It is marked but is very difficult, steep and there are gravel slides to walk over. The path is not long, but very strenuous - only intended for experienced hikers. On the summit is a cairn in which is a guestbook for mountain guests to sign.
